Houston Man Charged with Felony Evading Arrest After Foot Chase Following Theft Investigation

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Houston man was arrested after allegedly fleeing deputies investigating a reported theft at a business in southeast Harris County, resulting in an enhanced felony evading arrest charge, authorities said.

Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office responded to a reported theft on July 28 at a business in the 18600 block of Eastfield Drive.

When Deputy O. Cartlidge arrived, investigators learned the suspect had fled the area before law enforcement arrived. Deputies later located the suspect at a nearby gas station.

According to the constable’s office, deputies attempted to detain the suspect, but he repeatedly refused lawful commands and ran from officers on foot.

During the pursuit, a department-issued Taser was deployed, allowing deputies to safely take the suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Eric Eugene Reed of Houston.

Because Reed has a prior conviction for evading arrest, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted an enhanced charge of Felony Evading Arrest or Detention with a Previous Conviction. He also faces charges related to the theft investigation.

Reed was transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, where he was booked without further incident.

His bond was set at $200.

The investigation remains ongoing.
