Woman Found Dead With Partially Burned Body Along Gulf Freeway in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police are investigating the death of a woman whose partially burned body was discovered Wednesday morning along the Gulf Freeway.

Officers with the Houston Police Department responded at about 9 a.m. July 29 to the 8100 block of Gulf Freeway, also known as South Interstate Highway 45, after a grounds maintenance crew discovered the body while mowing grass.

According to HPD Homicide Division investigators, the woman was found deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the Houston Police Department Homicide Division, the Houston Fire Department Arson Bureau and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the victim’s body had been partially burned.

Investigators said the victim appears to be a Black female with a star tattoo on one of her hands. Her identity has not yet been confirmed.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will conduct an autopsy to determine the woman’s identity, as well as the cause and manner of her death.
