Texas Auto Crimes Task Force Seeks Second Suspect After $44,000 Vehicle Fraud Scheme

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – The Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force has charged one suspect and is searching for a second person following an investigation into a fraudulent vehicle sale that allegedly cost a local dealership approximately $44,000.

According to investigators, two suspects attempted to sell a 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander to a local dealership on July 17 using false information during the transaction.

Authorities said the fraudulent sale resulted in an estimated loss of approximately $44,000 for the dealership.

During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance footage and identification presented during the transaction, leading to the identification of one of the suspects as 53-year-old Olmer Coba-Silva.

Coba-Silva has been charged with theft involving property valued between $30,000 and $150,000. His bond was set at $50,000.

Investigators said a second suspect involved in the scheme has not yet been identified.

The Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the remaining suspect.
