Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting in Southeast Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – A 29-year-old man has been arrested on a murder charge after a fatal shooting early Saturday in the McKinney area of Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:17 a.m. on July 18 to the 3200 block of Montopolis Drive after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Tyris Rivers suffering from a gunshot wound. Rivers was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:28 a.m.

Homicide detectives responded to investigate the shooting and determined that Rivers had been involved in a physical altercation at a residence before the gunfire.

Investigators allege that 29-year-old Jaquan Easley shot Rivers following the altercation.

Police said Easley remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested and charged with murder.

The investigation remains ongoing and has been designated as Austin’s 35th homicide of 2026.
