Austin Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting of Roommate

AUSTIN, Texas. A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after police say he fatally shot his roommate during an early morning altercation Saturday in North Austin.

Austin police responded at approximately 4:54 a.m. on July 11 to a reported shooting at a residence in the 8300 block of Empress Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found 46-year-old Kristan Jeansonne unresponsive with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:11 a.m.

Detectives with the Austin Police Department’s Homicide Unit and crime scene specialists processed the residence and launched an investigation.

According to the preliminary investigation, Donald Pyle shot his roommate, Jeansonne, during an altercation inside the home.

Police said Pyle remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with murder.

The investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through Capital Area Crime Stoppers.

Police said the case is Austin’s 34th homicide of 2026.
