Arrest Made in Fatal Poolside Shooting at Rosenberg Apartment Complex

ROSENBERG, Texas — A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting during an early morning gathering at a Rosenberg apartment complex.
According to the Rosenberg Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, to reports of a shooting at the pool area of The Henry at Rosenberg Apartments, located at 3419 Fountains Drive.
When officers arrived, they found 26-year-old Jalunta Hawkins of Wharton suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, detectives identified 20-year-old Xavier Eduardo Lopez of Beasley as the suspect.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant signed by Judge Edward M. Krenek of the 400th District Court. Lopez was taken into custody and charged with Murder, a first-degree felony.
His bond has been set at $1.5 million.
According to investigators, the shooting stemmed from an argument between Lopez and Hawkins during an after-hours gathering around the apartment complex pool.
Witnesses told detectives the disagreement escalated, and Lopez allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Hawkins. Investigators said Hawkins was unarmed.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
