LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – A Liberty County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a residential burglary that targeted an elderly woman and resulted in the theft of cash, jewelry, and financial documents.

Daniel Ray Burch, 49, was sentenced on June 2 by the 75th District Court in Liberty County to 20 years of confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The conviction stemmed from a burglary investigation conducted by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division.

According to investigators, deputies responded on July 13, 2024, to a burglary report at a residence in the Daisetta area. The homeowner, an elderly woman, had been away from the residence when the crime occurred.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that a safe containing jewelry, cash, and unused checks had been stolen from the home.

Investigators said the suspect left behind a Taser during a hurried departure, providing an early piece of evidence in the case.

Detectives conducted an extensive investigation that included reviewing residential surveillance footage from the neighborhood and obtaining bank surveillance video after someone attempted to cash one of the stolen checks.

The evidence helped investigators identify a suspect vehicle and ultimately led to Burch as the primary suspect.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant, and Burch was later taken into custody.

The case proceeded through the court system, resulting in Burch’s conviction and sentencing to 20 years in state prison.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office credited investigators and partner agencies involved in the case and reaffirmed its commitment to investigating property crimes and holding offenders accountable.
