Three Arrested in Deadly Southwest Houston Party Shooting That Killed One, Injured Another

HOUSTON, Texas- Three suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with a March shooting that left one man dead and an 18-year-old woman critically injured in southwest Houston.
According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. on March 29 in the 6000 block of Bissonnet Street.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire found two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported both victims to area hospitals.
The male victim, identified as 20-year-old Edwin Gayton, later died from his injuries. An 18-year-old woman survived but was listed in critical condition following the shooting.
Investigators determined the violence stemmed from an altercation at a nearby apartment complex during a party.
According to witness statements, a verbal dispute escalated and multiple individuals began firing weapons.
Houston police identified three suspects involved in the shooting:
- Victor Enoc Ortez-Montoya, 20
- Joel Calderon, 19
- Carlos H. Medrano Palacios, 17
Authorities said Medrano Palacios was arrested on the day of the shooting and charged with Deadly Conduct – Discharge of a Firearm. Investigators allege he fired several shots during the incident.
On April 3, Calderon was arrested on unrelated charges. During the homicide investigation, detectives charged him with murder for his alleged role in the shooting.
On May 28, officers arrested Ortez-Montoya and charged him with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The investigation remains ongoing.
