Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Child Sex Crime in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Texas – Justice has been delivered in a deeply troubling child sex abuse case, as 33-year-old Sterling Clinton Williams was sentenced to 35 years in prison following a conviction for crimes committed against a child, Orange County Sheriff Bobby Smith announced.
The case, described by the sheriff as one of the most difficult the community has faced, concluded with the maximum accountability allowed under the law. Smith said the sentence sends a clear message to offenders and reinforces the county’s commitment to protecting its most vulnerable residents.
“This was a horrific crime, and the sentence reflects the seriousness of the harm caused,” Sheriff Smith said. “Let this be absolutely clear: crimes against our children will not be tolerated in this community.”
Sheriff Smith credited the successful prosecution to coordinated efforts across multiple agencies, beginning with the deputies who first responded to the incident. He emphasized the importance of both swift action and compassion when dealing with child victims.
“Our deputies acted quickly, but just as importantly, they treated the victim with dignity and care during those critical early moments,” Smith said. “That compassion matters, and it makes a difference in how a child begins the long road to healing.”
Investigators spent months gathering evidence and building a strong case, while prosecutors worked to ensure the offender was held fully accountable. Smith also highlighted the role of community trust and cooperation in bringing the case to resolution.
“No child should ever have to endure this kind of trauma,” he said. “My heart goes out to the victim and their family, who showed incredible courage throughout this process. We hope this sentence brings some measure of justice and peace as they move forward.”
Sheriff Smith reaffirmed his office’s ongoing commitment to child protection, stating that cases involving children remain among the department’s highest priorities.
“Our work is far from over,” Smith said. “We will continue to fight every day to protect children, hold offenders accountable, and earn the trust of the community we serve.”
