Man Shoots Himself After McDonald’s Standoff in Pinehurst

A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after shooting himself during a standoff with law enforcement at a McDonald’s in Pinehurst on Monday morning.
The incident began earlier in the day when Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a welfare check at a cemetery in Magnolia for a report of a man threatening suicide with a firearm. When deputies arrived, the man fled the scene and crossed into Harris County, prompting an alert to surrounding agencies.
Around 11:05 a.m., officers learned the man was inside the McDonald’s on Highway 249. Deputies from both Montgomery and Harris counties responded and found him barricaded in the restaurant’s bathroom. While officers tried to de-escalate the situation, the man told them he was armed and refused to surrender.
He eventually fired a single shot, injuring himself.
The man has been identified as Shane Moresco, 21. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office had already accepted charges against him earlier that morning for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence and evading arrest in a vehicle.
Moresco was taken by EMS to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The incident is being investigated jointly by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
