Fatal Crash in Odessa Claims Life of Elderly Man and Leaves a Woman in Critical Condition
In a tragic incident on Friday, September 30, 2023, a fatal crash occurred in Odessa, Texas, involving four individuals. According to the report released by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Monday, 72-year-old Phyllis Shedeck Anderson of Odessa was driving a 2020 Mercedes Benz westbound on 10th St. Her 80-year-old passenger, Larry Lee Anderson, was also in the vehicle.
At around 4:12 p.m., Phyllis Anderson came to a stop at a marked stop sign intersection with State Highway 302. At the same time, 22-year-old Luis Anthony Solis Vera, also from Odessa, was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 southbound on State Highway 302, nearing the intersection. Solis Vera had another passenger in the car with him.
Phyllis Anderson failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection directly in the path of Solis Vera. The collision occurred when Solis Vera’s vehicle struck the Mercedes Benz on the passenger side.
As a result of the crash, both Phyllis and Larry Lee Anderson were transported to Medical Center Hospital for medical attention. Sadly, Larry Lee Anderson succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. Phyllis Anderson remains in critical condition.
Both Luis Anthony Solis Vera and his passenger emerged from the crash without injuries.
