Daniel De La Pena and Esperanza Mondragon

EL PASO, TX – A wanted fugitive is behind bars after the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested him during a criminal investigation on September 23, 2025.

Detectives were searching for 33-year-old Daniel De La Pena, who had an active Assault–Family Violence warrant in Texas and an additional criminal warrant out of California with full extradition for another assault offense.

Deputies tracked De La Pena to a residence in the 14500 block of Encantado Dr., where they spoke with 28-year-old Esperanza Mondragon, who identified herself as his sister. Despite being informed of his warrants, Mondragon denied that he was inside.

A search warrant was obtained, and De La Pena was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on:

  • Seven traffic warrants totaling $1,181 in bond
  • Local Assault–Family Violence warrant with a $1,000 bond
  • Pending extradition to California on an additional assault charge

Mondragon was also arrested and charged with Hindering Apprehension of a Wanted Person and Interference with Public Duties. Her bond was set at $2,000.

Both remain in custody at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
