Suspect Charged with Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer After Ambush in Humble

HUMBLE, Texas—A man has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer after he allegedly ambushed Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies with an automatic rifle on Tuesday morning.

Kenyon Levor Coleman, 47, was reportedly waiting for deputies in a wooded area near the 18600 block of Atlantic Drive, armed with an automatic rifle and a large amount of ammunition. According to authorities, he was wearing all black clothing and had a chair set up.

Upon their arrival, deputies were met with gunfire. No deputies were injured, and it is believed that Coleman’s weapon jammed, preventing him from clearing it. Coleman retreated into the wooded area but was quickly located and taken into custody. The rifle was recovered.

Investigators believe the initial call for service was a fake or “swatting” call intended to lure deputies to the location.

Coleman was booked into the Harris County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer.
