Galveston County Auto Shop Owner Arrested on Theft and Weapon Charges

Eric Gomez, 36, owner of EG AUTO located at 4631 Highway 6 in Freddiesville, has been arrested and charged with theft of property and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The investigation began on May 29, 2025, when Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at EG AUTO. After verifying the presence of the stolen vehicle on the property, the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force (ACTF) was called in.

During the execution of a search warrant, ACTF Investigators discovered two stolen vehicles and an illegal firearm. Gomez was questioned at the scene but required transport by emergency medical services for an unrelated medical issue.

The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation details and approved criminal charges against Gomez. Arrest warrants were subsequently issued.

On June 2, 2025, the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force, in collaboration with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), located and arrested Gomez. He faces charges of Theft of Property valued between $2,500 and $30,000 (Bond: $10,000), Theft of Property valued between $750 and $2,500 (Bond: $2,500), and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon (Bond: $40,000).
