74-Year-Old Man Found Dead After Apartment Fire at Houston Senior Living Complex

Houston police and fire officials are investigating the death of a 74-year-old man found after a fire at a senior living complex at 6 Burress Street late Wednesday night, May 28.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., Houston Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at Independence Hall senior apartments. Heavy flames were reported coming from Building 13, prompting a second alarm. During a secondary search after the fire was extinguished, emergency crews discovered the deceased male inside the residence.
Three other individuals were transported to the hospital, including one person who sustained injuries after jumping from a window to escape the fire.
The identity of the deceased man is pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. An autopsy will be conducted to determine his cause of death.
At this time, there is no evidence of foul play. HFD Arson and HPD Homicide investigators are working jointly to determine the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast is assisting displaced residents.
