31-Year-Old Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on North Freeway in Houston

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred around 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in the 2700 block of the North Freeway (Interstate 45 North).

According to investigators with the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, a gray Mazda 3 was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound when it struck a barrier and rolled multiple times. The 31-year-old female driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics. Her identity is pending notification to next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Moments after the initial crash, a blue Lexus RX350 struck the disabled Mazda. The driver of a white Ford Fusion then tried to avoid hitting the Lexus but instead struck the Lexus driver, who had exited their vehicle and was standing on the freeway. A white Honda Civic also collided with the Mazda and pulled over in the main lanes before being rear-ended by a fifth vehicle.

The driver of the Lexus was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. No other serious injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
