3-Year-Old Killed After Being Struck by ATV in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas – A 3-year-old boy died Tuesday evening after being struck by an all-terrain vehicle while crossing a street in central El Paso, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at approximately 6:07 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to a motor vehicle collision in the 600 block of Endwall Street. Upon arrival, deputies found a crash involving serious injuries and requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators, who later took over the case.
Preliminary information indicates the ATV was traveling southbound in the 600 block of Endwall Street when it struck the child as he was crossing the roadway. The child was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Next of kin has been notified.
Sheriff Oscar Ugarte called the incident a preventable tragedy and emphasized that ATVs are not permitted on public roadways.
“These vehicles are not designed for street use, and when they are operated illegally, they create a serious safety risk,” Ugarte said, adding that the sheriff’s office will continue enforcement actions, including impoundment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
