21-Year-Old Charged With Murder in May Fatal Shooting at Missouri City Business

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a May shooting that left a 42-year-old man dead outside a business in Missouri City.

Jeremiah Spears-Jackson, 21, is charged with murder in the 502nd Fort Bend County Criminal District Court in the death of Michael Simmons, according to Houston Police.

Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. May 18 to a shooting in a business parking lot at 6607 West Fuqua Street near Chimney Rock Road.

Police said Simmons had been shot at least once. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined Simmons may have been involved in a verbal dispute with a group of people shortly before the shooting. Police said the suspects were seen running west from the property immediately afterward.

Houston Police released photos of people investigators wanted to identify in connection with the case. The investigation eventually identified Spears-Jackson as a suspect.

Spears-Jackson was arrested Thursday, Sept. 17, and charged with murder. He was booked into the Fort Bend County Jail.

Police said a second suspect in the case died in an unrelated incident in May. Authorities did not identify that person or provide additional details about the circumstances of the death.
