19-year-old Woman Hit By 18-wheeler After Loosing Balance and Falling in its Path, Driver Did Not Stop
The Houston Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that unfolded last Friday, September 22, at around 7:05 p.m. The incident occurred at the intersection of 899 Franklin Street.
The victim of the incident is a 19-year-old female, but her identity is awaiting confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to reports from HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. James and Officer D. Jones, the victim was standing on the sidewalk at the intersection of Travis and Franklin along with a group of others. For reasons yet to be determined, the young woman lost her balance and fell into the street at the exact moment a grey Cascadia Freightliner, towing a trailer, was passing by. Tragically, she was struck by the trailer of the 18-wheeler. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and left the scene without rendering assistance.
Following the incident, emergency responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived at the scene. Regrettably, they pronounced the female victim deceased.
