18-Year-Old Charged with Capital Murder in Fatal Shooting of Two Teens in Harris County

On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) rushed to the 5900 block of Paloma Dr. in north Harris County, Texas, following reports of a single-vehicle crash around 10:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a four-door sedan had crashed, with two young men in their late teens to early twenties in the front seats, both unresponsive due to apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services (EMS) pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots before the crash, but no suspects or witnesses were identified.

The HCSO Homicide and Crime Scene Units arrived to investigate the incident further. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the homicide unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

Fast forward to Tuesday, February 6, 2024, where the Homicide Unit Investigators have made a significant breakthrough. They have charged 18-year-old Jose Plata with Capital Murder in connection to the shooting deaths of 18-year-old David Caballero and 16-year-old Edgar Campos-Bonilla. Plata was apprehended without any trouble by members of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and is presently being processed into the Harris County Jail.
