Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting on South Freeway HOV Lanes

Houston police have arrested Gregory Elias Rodriguez, 55, in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the 6000 block of South Freeway (South U.S. Highway 288) on Monday morning (Nov. 18). Rodriguez faces charges of murder, unlawful carry of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance in the 208th State District Court.

Incident Details

Officers responded around 11:10 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the median of the freeway’s HOV lanes. Upon arrival, they found the victim, 58, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics. The victim’s identity is pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Witness Accounts and Arrest

Witnesses reported seeing a man chasing the victim while firing at him. Officers located a suspect matching the description nearby. When approached, the suspect fled but was apprehended shortly afterward. Initially booked on unrelated charges, further investigation led to murder charges against Rodriguez on Wednesday (Nov. 20) following consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
