Body of Missing Autistic 8-Year-Old Found in Richmond, Texas Lake

Authorities have confirmed the recovery of the body of an 8-year-old Ryan Akabusi who had been missing since early Saturday morning in Richmond, Texas (Fort Bend County). Ryan was found deceased in a lake near his home in the 19900 block of Kendall Lake Drive.

Surveillance footage captured the boy leaving his bedroom at approximately 4:56 a.m. on Saturday. Additional video from a neighbor’s camera showed him walking down a nearby street at 5:37 a.m. An Amber Alert was issued later that day as search efforts, led by Texas Equusearch and local law enforcement, were intensified.

Search teams, including K9 units, concentrated their efforts on the Lakemont neighborhood and a nearby retention pond, which was partially cordoned off.

The tragic outcome underscores the challenges faced by children with special needs like autism. Community members are grieving the loss and reflecting on the importance of safeguarding children and enhancing community awareness to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
