Montgomery County Deputy Fires at Armed Man; Gun Revealed as Pellet Gun
On July 5, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a crash involving an intoxicated driver near the 7000 block of Forest Hills Drive in Montgomery, Texas. Upon arrival, deputies began searching for the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Tobias Sangster of Montgomery, who had fled into nearby woods.
During the search, Sangster emerged from hiding and brandished what initially appeared to be a rifle, pointing it at the deputies. In response to the perceived threat, a deputy discharged his firearm multiple times. Sangster dropped the weapon, which was later determined to be a pellet gun, and surrendered to authorities without sustaining any injuries from the shots fired.
Sangster has been charged with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant and Driving While Intoxicated. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, are currently investigating the incident.
