Austin Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Murder and Assault on Public Servant

Kelvin Jaquan Robinson, aged 23, pleaded guilty to Murder and Assault on a Public Servant on Monday, January 22, 2024, just before jury selection was set to begin for his trial. He received a sentence of 26 years for Murder and 4 years for Assault on a Public Servant, to be served concurrently in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Mr. Robinson was apprehended by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force on January 12, 2021, following charges by the Austin Police Department for the Murder of Mario Robinson, aged 23, which occurred on November 7, 2020.

On January 28, 2021, Mr. Robinson was indicted for the Murder offense. Subsequently, while in custody, he faced additional charges for Assault of a Public Servant, with an indictment on February 13, 2023.

The case against Mr. Robinson was meticulously prepared by Assistant District Attorneys Neha Naik, Andrea Austin, and Cindy Izquierdo, with the assistance of Investigator Mike Henderson, Victim Counselor Kyrsten Engstrom, Paralegal Raquel Sanchez, and Legal Secretary Chardell Clark. The investigation into Mr. Robinson’s case was led by APD’s Sgt. Paul Chavez and Sgt. Christopher Vanlandingham.

Travis County District Attorney José Garza expressed gratitude towards their dedicated staff and law enforcement partners, emphasizing their tireless efforts to hold the defendant accountable and bring justice to the victim’s family.
