League City Police Fatally Shoot Armed Robbery Suspect in Walmart Parking Lot

League City Police Officers engaged in an officer-involved shooting with an armed robbery suspect at the Walmart parking lot, located at 1701 W FM 646, resulting in the death of the male suspect.

The incident unfolded on Saturday, December 23, 2023, when the League City Police Department received a report of a stolen silver Toyota Corolla near S Gulf Fwy and Town Center Dr. The vehicle was linked to an earlier Aggravated Robbery with a gun in Houston. Responding officers located the unoccupied stolen Toyota in the Walmart parking lot at around 3:32 p.m. and remained in the area to monitor the vehicle.

At approximately 4:04 p.m., officers observed the suspect returning to the Toyota and attempted to detain him. The suspect, however, brandished a handgun, prompting officers to open fire. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and despite officers’ attempts at lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel from the League City Fire Department at approximately 4:13 p.m. No officers were injured in the incident.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office has been called to conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The League City Officers involved will be placed on paid Administrative Leave pending the completion of the investigation by the GCSO.
