Rollover Crash Caused by Altercation Between Driver and Passenger Claims Life of 3-Year-Old Child

The main lanes of Highway 288 were reopened in the early hours of Monday after a fatal rollover crash forced a lengthy closure, as reported by the Houston Police Department.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight on October 30, 2023, while heading north near the interchange with the Southwest Freeway.

According to the Houston police, a dispute between the driver and a passenger led to the tragic event. The passenger seized control of the wheel, causing the SUV to flip during the altercation. Regrettably, the rollover had devastating consequences for the three young children who were in the vehicle. Among them, a 3-year-old child sustained a head injury during the accident and later succumbed to it in the hospital, police disclosed.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the crash to determine if charges will be filed in connection with this heartbreaking incident.

UPDATE: There were six children in the vehicle. One of them was pronounced deceased at a hospital. The five other kids were transported to hospitals. Two of them were in critical condition and the three others in stable condition. Investigators are attempting to confirm ages of the children.
The female driver, 29, was transported to a hospital in stable condition. The front male passenger, 39, was not injured.
