Suspect in August Northeast Houston Fatal Shooting Caught in Walker County
A suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a man that occurred on August 22 at 9719 Bertwood Street is now in custody.
The suspect, identified as Jachob Leroy Byrd, aged 46, is currently in custody in Walker County. Byrd has been charged with capital murder in the 180th State District Court.
The victim in this case has been identified as Eric Brown, aged 54.
According to reports from the HPD Homicide Division, officers responded to a call regarding a deceased male at a residence on Bertwood Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Brown with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics declared him deceased at the scene.
Further investigation led to the identification of Jachob Leroy Byrd as a suspect in the case. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, charges were officially filed on September 11.
On Tuesday, October 24, Byrd was arrested in Walker County, Texas by officers from the Huntsville Police Department and deputies from the US Marshals Service. He is currently awaiting extradition to Harris County.
