Harris County Husband Accused of Fatally Shooting Wife, Turning Gun on Himself While Children Were at School

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A woman was killed and her husband critically wounded in an apparent murder-suicide attempt outside their Harris County home while the couple’s three children were at school, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened around noon Friday, Aug. 28, in the 7400 block of Sunlit Harbor Drive.

Harris County Precinct 5 constable deputies and EMS responded after a neighborhood resident called 911 and reported finding two people lying unresponsive in the street. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

First responders attempted lifesaving measures before transporting the man and woman to a hospital. The woman was pronounced dead, while the man remained alive in critical condition.

Harris County homicide detectives interviewed witnesses and reviewed security camera footage from nearby homes. Investigators also spoke with a woman who had been on the phone with the wife when the shooting occurred.

Investigators determined the couple was married and lived a few houses from where they were found.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the husband and wife were arguing when the confrontation turned violent. Investigators said the husband pulled out a handgun and shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself.

The couple has three juvenile children, none of whom witnessed the shooting because they were at school at the time, according to investigators.

As of the Sheriff’s Office’s report, the husband remained hospitalized in critical condition in downtown Houston.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted about the case. Investigators said prosecutors were awaiting additional information about the husband’s medical condition and likelihood of recovery before deciding whether to accept a murder charge.

The woman’s body was transferred to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine her cause and manner of death.
