21-Year-Old Woman Killed After Speeding Crash Into Utility Pole in West Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – A 21-year-old woman was killed after losing control of her car and crashing into a utility pole in West Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:50 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, in the 11500 block of Westpark Drive in the Westchase area.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the victim as 21-year-old Ruby Matehuala.

According to investigators with the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division, Matehuala was driving a white Honda Accord westbound on Westpark Drive at a high rate of speed while weaving through traffic.

Police said the Honda failed to maintain a single lane, causing the driver to lose control before striking an electrical pole.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Matehuala dead.

Investigators said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Police confirmed no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the collision.

The Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the crash.
