Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Stabbing at Austin Homeless Encampment

AUSTIN, Texas – A man has been charged with murder after police say he fatally stabbed another man during an altercation at a homeless encampment in Butler Metro Park.

Officers with the Austin Police Department responded at approximately 12:06 a.m. on July 26 to a reported stabbing at Butler Metro Park, located at 401 Dawson Road.

According to police, a 911 caller reported that a man had been stabbed in the chest.

When officers arrived, Austin-Travis County EMS personnel were treating the victim, later identified as Vincent Bort, for traumatic injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, Bort was pronounced dead at 12:32 a.m.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Micah Delaney, fled the scene before officers arrived.

A short time later, Delaney called 911 on himself and was taken into custody without incident.

Austin Police homicide detectives and crime scene specialists responded to investigate.

According to the preliminary investigation, Bort and Delaney became involved in a verbal altercation at a homeless encampment inside Butler Metro Park that escalated into a stabbing.

Delaney was arrested and charged with First-Degree Murder.
