SPRING, Texas – An arrest has been made following a two-month investigation into the December 2025 shooting death of a 31-year-old man in Spring, authorities said.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office detectives began investigating late on December 6, 2025, after Rashad Gumbs was found lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2700 block of Spring Dusk Lane. According to investigators, Gumbs had stepped outside his home to meet someone when he was shot.

Gumbs was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The case was initially investigated as an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but Gumbs died from his injuries on December 9.

Homicide detectives conducted a follow-up investigation and identified 26-year-old Ben Jerry Gage Jr. as a suspect. Gage has been charged with Capital Murder in connection with the alleged robbery and shooting death of Gumbs.

Gage is currently being held in the Harris County Jail on a separate capital murder charge. Bond in this case has been set at $1 million. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 6, 2026.
