Teen Arrested In East Houston Shooting That Killed One, Critically Injured Another

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police have arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with a shooting that left one teenager dead and another critically wounded in East Houston last week, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at 9550 North Wayside Drive. Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to reports of gunfire and found two males inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Houston Fire Department paramedics transported both victims to area hospitals. One of the victims, a 16-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A second victim, a 15-year-old male, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Witnesses told police they heard a crash following the shooting. Investigators determined the victims’ vehicle struck a curb and then a bridge as they attempted to flee the scene. Police said narcotics were also found inside the crashed vehicle.
On Wednesday, Jan. 21, a 16-year-old suspect turned himself in to HPD homicide investigators. After further investigation, detectives consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which accepted charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The juvenile suspect was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities. Because of the suspect’s age, police said no identifying information will be released.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
