Houston Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting of Roommate in Garage

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 30-year-old man is in custody following a deadly argument that ended in a fatal shooting inside a North Harris County garage on Friday night.

Jonah Cornnell McQueen has been charged with Murder for the death of his 52-year-old roommate, Kelvin Jones. The incident occurred on January 9, 2026, in the 400 block of Thornwilde Park Lane.

The Incident

Deputies from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office responded to an “unknown medical emergency” call at approximately 7:42 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Kelvin Jones lying unresponsive on the floor of the home’s garage. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel.

A third roommate told investigators he was inside the house when he heard a single gunshot coming from the garage. He rushed to the area, found Jones, and immediately dialed 911.

Investigation and Confession

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigators took over the scene. Their preliminary investigation and witness interviews quickly pointed to McQueen as the shooter.

McQueen was located and detained with the assistance of Precinct 4 deputies. During an interview with homicide detectives, McQueen reportedly admitted to shooting Jones in the back during a verbal argument.

Following the confession, an Assistant District Attorney accepted the murder charge against McQueen. He was booked into the Harris County Jail over the weekend. He remains in custody and his bond was set at $500,000.
