Third Suspect Arrested in May North Braeswood Fatal Shooting in Meyerland Area of Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police have taken a third suspect into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kenneth Leaks and the wounding of another male at 5410 North Braeswood Boulevard in the Meyerland Area on May 24, 2025.
The newly arrested suspect, Isaiah Crooms, 19, is charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 482nd Criminal District Court. Two other suspects, Miles Julian Edwards, 19, and Zion Armon Mitchell, 18, had previously been arrested and are also charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 339th, 482nd, and 183rd Criminal District Courts, respectively.
According to HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detectives N. Sharp, officers responded to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital after a male was admitted with a gunshot wound. Investigators learned the victim, Leaks, had been transported by a private vehicle following a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex at the North Braeswood address.
Witnesses reported that Leaks had been meeting an individual at the complex for a transaction when several black males approached his vehicle. One suspect fired a gun, striking Leaks at least once. A 17-year-old male was also struck by gunfire but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Mitchell was arrested on June 16 by HPD’s Southeast Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team, while Edwards was arrested on August 28. Crooms was arrested on November 17 by the same unit and subsequently charged.
HPD continues to investigate the incident and emphasizes its commitment to holding those responsible for violent crimes accountable.
