Brazoria Police Officer Arrested in Lavaca County, Resigns Following Charges
On Friday, November 7, 2025, probationary officer Richard Alan Sedgwick with the Brazoria Police Department was arrested in Lavaca County following a traffic incident. Sedgwick faces charges of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to officials, Sedgwick was off duty at the time of the incident. Shortly afterward, he submitted his resignation from the Brazoria Police Department, effective immediately.
The department confirmed that Sedgwick is no longer employed and stated that it is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation being conducted by Lavaca County authorities.
