One Dead in Fatal Crash on Mopac Expressway in Austin

On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a sedan and a construction truck in the 2900 block of south Mopac Expressway Southbound. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the sedan, 26-year-old Javier Graves, crashed into the back of the construction truck. Graves was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The construction truck driver was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 68th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 71 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 78 fatal crashes resulted in 80 deaths.
