K-9 Unit Leads to Arrest of Two Men on Drug Charges in Harris County

HOUSTON—Two men with outstanding warrants were arrested on felony drug charges early Wednesday morning after a Precinct 8 K-9 deputy conducted a traffic stop near a closed business.
At approximately 3:18 a.m. on September 17, K-9 Deputy K. Peters noticed a suspicious vehicle in the 12900 block of Scarsdale Blvd. and made contact with the two individuals, identified as Robert Solomonsz, 42, and Brian Kelly Coppinger, 55.
A check revealed that Solomonsz had an open warrant for Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was taken into custody, and during a search, deputies found methamphetamine on his person.
Coppinger also had open warrants out of North Dakota and Kansas. A K-9 named Duke was deployed and alerted to a bag in Coppinger’s possession. A subsequent search of the bag uncovered more methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance against both men. They were booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center. Solomonsz’s bond was set at $20,000, and Coppinger’s was set at $1,500.
