EL PASO, Texas—A man has been arrested and charged with discharging a firearm within city limits and making a false alarm after he fired a shotgun inside his residence, claiming intruders were attempting to break in.

On September 5, Tracy Robert Wright, 63, was arrested by the El Paso Police Department. According to the investigation, Wright called 911 around 8:27 a.m. reporting a break-in at his home. Gunshots were heard from within the residence as officers arrived.

Wright initially told officers that his nephew and others had attempted to break into his home and that he fired at them when they entered. However, further investigation revealed that Wright had fired the shotgun through his walls while no one was attempting to break in. His nephew was confirmed to be out of town at the time of the incident.

Additional resources, including SWAT, Crisis Management Team, and Crisis Intervention Team, were called to the scene. Police made entry into the residence, where they recovered two shotguns and a pistol.

Wright was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility and faces charges of Discharge of a Firearm in Certain Municipalities and False Alarm or Report, with bonds set at $3,000 for each charge.
