Austin Woman Arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter After Crash Kills Her Passenger

Austin, TX – On September 1, 2025, at 9:46 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a two-vehicle collision in the eastbound lanes of the 5200 block of E. Ben White Boulevard.

A passenger in one of the vehicles, 21-year-old Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the same vehicle, 21-year-old Sonia Edith Ramos, was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter.

APD confirmed this incident marks Austin’s 71st fatal crash of 2025, with 75 traffic-related deaths so far this year. By the same date in 2024, there had been 59 fatal crashes with 64 deaths. Officials note that these numbers are preliminary and subject to change as investigations continue.
