Armed Female Suspect Fatally Shot by Houston Police After Barricade and Assault Threat

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old armed female suspect by an HPD officer early Wednesday morning, July 9, at 1652 West 13th Street.

The suspect’s identity is pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officer T. Dupuy, a Tactical Operations Division member since 1992, discharged his duty weapon during the incident and was unharmed.

According to HPD Special Investigations Unit detectives, officers responded around 9 p.m. on July 8 to a disturbance involving the suspect harassing CenterPoint Energy workers responding to a gas leak. The suspect barricaded herself inside her residence, wearing body armor and displaying a handgun from a second-floor window.

Officers observed the suspect load a rifle and point it toward them. After obtaining an arrest warrant for aggravated assault on a peace officer, HPD SWAT and Hostage Negotiation teams arrived.

Following hours of negotiation attempts, the suspect again aimed her rifle at officers. Fearing for their safety, an officer fired, fatally wounding the suspect.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the suspect dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

The case is under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
