Maintenance Worker Shot and Killed at Twelve620 Apartments; Shooter Claims Self-Defense

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred at the Twelve620 Apartments on the evening of Monday, July 7, 2025.

Deputies responded to a shooting call at the apartment complex located at 12620 Eastex Freeway around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found 43-year-old Michael Ford, a maintenance worker at the complex, dead from gunshot wounds.

A 34-year-old male resident of the complex was detained at the scene. The man told deputies that he and Ford had exchanged words, after which Ford allegedly pushed him against a wall. The resident claimed he then shot Ford in self-defense.

Homicide detectives interviewed the resident, and the preliminary findings were presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time. The case remains under investigation and will be presented to a Harris County Grand Jury for review.
