High-Speed Chase Ends on Sam Houston Tollway; Driver Charged with Felony Evading and DWI

A 35-mile high-speed pursuit on the South Sam Houston Tollway East concluded Friday, June 20th, with the arrest of a driver facing felony charges. Harris County Constable Precinct 2 Toll Road Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding when the driver refused to pull over, initiating the extensive chase.

The pursuit came to an end when deputies successfully deployed a tire deflation device, causing the suspect’s vehicle to strike crash barrels. Deputies from Precinct 2, with critical support from Precincts 3, 7, and 8, then safely took the driver into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Thomas J. Lawniczak, 31. He was arrested and subsequently charged with Felony Evading Arrest and Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Lawniczak was booked into the Harris County Jail.
