Man Shot in the Head During Domestic Dispute in Houston; Girlfriend Arrested

A 22-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday night, May 25, 2024, during a domestic disturbance at the Derby at Steeplechase Apartments located at 11220 West Road, prompting a murder investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the complex near Building 9 around 9:30 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported a man had been shot and was lying on the ground. Upon arrival, deputies and EMS found the victim with at least one gunshot wound to the head. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witness interviews revealed that the victim, identified as Javion Williams, 22, had come to the apartment with a male friend to collect his belongings from the unit shared with his ex-girlfriend. During a verbal altercation, the woman shot Williams.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Derricka Ross, was detained at the scene along with another male. After being interviewed by detectives, Ross confessed to the shooting. She has been charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office removed the body from the scene. Investigators were still working to notify Williams’ next of kin at the time of the report.
