Suspect Surrenders in Downtown Austin Hit-and-Run That Killed 20-year-old Pedestrian

A suspect has surrendered in connection with a hit-and-run traffic fatality that occurred in downtown Austin on May 11, which resulted in the death of 20-year-old Erica Garza.

On May 20, 2025, Lily Bao Do, 28, surrendered to authorities. She has been charged with Collision Involving Death and Collision Involving Injury.

The incident took place on May 11, 2025, at approximately 4:59 a.m. Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash in the 700 block of E 7th Street, involving a vehicle and three pedestrians. The vehicle involved fled the scene, heading northbound on the N IH-35 frontage road.

Two male pedestrians sustained minor injuries in the crash. Erica Garza, the female pedestrian, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she was tragically pronounced deceased on May 16, 2025.

The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 30th fatal crash of 2025, contributing to a total of 34 fatalities this year.
